Habits Causing Skin Diseases

- Engaging in physical exercise and taking sun baths after heavy meals.
- Participating in sexual intercourse during indigestion.
- Regular daytime sleep.
- Exercising or having sexual intercourse after undergoing Snehapana (internal oleation) and Vamana (emesis).
- Entering cold water immediately after experiencing fear, exhaustion, or prolonged sunlight exposure.

- Aswedanam (decreased sweating) or Atiswedanam (excess sweating)

- Kandu (itching)
- Pidika (blisters)

Line of Treatment
Treatment is classified into:
(a) Shodhana Chikitsa
When doshas are significantly imbalanced and the disease is chronic, Shodhana Chikitsa should be applied first. It includes:
- Basti Karma
- Vaman Karma
- Virechana Karma
- Nasya Karma
- Raktamokshana (Blood letting)
(b) Shaman Chikitsa
When doshas are minimally imbalanced and the body is weak, Shaman Chikitsa is more suitable. It can be classified into:
- Internal Treatment: Administration of proper food and medicines.
- External Treatment: Application of medicated oil, lepa (ointment), etc.
External Application for Skin Disease
Topical preparations include:
- Lepa – cream application
- Parisheka – sprinkling of liquids over lesions
- Avachurana – dusting with powder
- Avagahana – dipping the affected part in medicated liquid
- Dhuma – fumigation of the affected skin part
Wholesome Diet and Habits for Skin Health
Beneficial foods and habits include:
- Laghu Anna (light food)
- Tikta Shaka (bitter vegetables)
- Purana Dhanya (older grains)
- Jangala Mamsa (flesh of desert animals)
- Mudga (greengram)
- Patola (snake gourd)
- Shali-Shastika (rice harvested in 60 days)
- Yava (barley)
- Godhuma (wheat)
Note: In cold climates, wheat may not be ideal for those allergic to gluten.

Harmful foods and habits include:
- Guru Anna (heavy food intake) – causes indigestion and Kapha imbalance, worsening itching
- Dugdha (excess milk and dairy products) – increases Kapha, leading to itching and excessive secretion
- Amla Rasa (sour food) – causes Pitta imbalance
- Dadhi (curd) – increases Pitta
- Anupa Mansa (marshy flesh)
- Matsya (fish)
- Guda (jaggery)

- Kulattha (horse gram)
- Masha (black gram)
